BCPG Explores Vanadium Redox Flow Battery Technology in China

Charnvit Trangadisaikul, Chief Investment Officer of BCPG Public Company Limited, together with representatives from Ivanhoe Electric Inc., USA, visited VRB Energy's Vanadium Redox Flow Battery (VRFB) project and manufacturing facilities in the People's Republic of China. The visit aimed to explore the potential of VRFB technology and its commercial applications for utility-scale Long Duration Energy Storage (LDES).

The delegation visited a 50 MW/200 MWh energy storage project in Changyang, Hubei Province, featuring VRB Energy's Pod500 system. The project stores surplus electricity generated from solar and wind power and delivers up to four hours of continuous electricity to enhance substation stability and support surrounding communities. During the visit, the delegation reviewed the system's operational performance, reliability, and real-world operating experience.

The delegation also toured VRB Energy's flow battery manufacturing facility in Changzhi, Shanxi Province, which has an annual production capacity of 3 GWh. The visit covered the entire manufacturing process, including battery cell production, electrolyte preparation, energy storage system assembly, as well as the company's integrated quality management and supply chain operations.

The study visit provided a valuable opportunity to exchange knowledge on advanced energy storage technologies and explore potential collaboration to support the development of clean energy solutions and strengthen future energy security.
