BCPG highlights Thailand–Vietnam clean energy investment opportunities in third countries, leveraging Laos’ renewable energy potential to support Cross-Border Power Supply for Vietnam’s growing energy demand

BCPG Public Company Limited (BCPG) has highlighted the strong potential for clean energy collaboration between Thailand and Vietnam, emphasizing opportunities for joint investments in third countries to strengthen regional energy security and support sustainable economic growth across Southeast Asia.
The company shared its perspective during the “Thailand–Vietnam Investment and Business Networking 2026” conference in Hanoi, where Thai and Vietnamese business leaders gathered to explore investment opportunities and strengthen economic cooperation. During the event, BCPG presented its vision of utilizing Laos’ abundant renewable energy resources to meet Vietnam’s increasing electricity demand through cross-border power transmission networks, in line with the region’s clean energy infrastructure development goals.
The conference was organized through collaboration between government agencies and business sectors from Thailand and Vietnam. It served as a platform to exchange perspectives, identify business opportunities, and promote investments in five high-potential industries, with the objective of strengthening regional supply chain connectivity and enhancing ASEAN’s competitiveness amid evolving global economic dynamics.
Rawee Boonsinsukh, President and CEO of BCPG Public Company Limited, stated that the event provided an important opportunity to engage with Vietnamese business leaders, particularly in the clean energy sector, which is expected to become a key area of future cooperation between Thailand and Vietnam.
“BCPG sees significant potential for Thailand and Vietnam to expand their collaboration beyond bilateral projects and explore joint investments in third countries. Such cooperation can effectively connect renewable energy resources with the region’s rapidly growing electricity demand, creating shared value and strengthening regional energy security”, said Rawee.
Rawee also noted that Vietnam is actively developing a more transparent, efficient, and investment-friendly power ecosystem to support long-term economic growth. Key developments include the expansion of the country’s 500-kilovolt transmission network, which serves as a critical backbone connecting northern and southern Vietnam while enhancing national energy security. Vietnam is also progressing toward a more competitive and independent electricity market structure.
“These developments demonstrate that Vietnam is not only focused on increasing power generation capacity but is also building a modern energy system capable of attracting new investments and supporting the energy transition. This aligns well with broader regional efforts to strengthen clean energy connectivity”, added Rawee.
According to BCPG, cross-border power supply should not be viewed merely as an alternative solution but as a strategic mechanism for connecting the strengths of different countries. Laos possesses substantial renewable energy resources, including hydropower and wind energy, which can be further developed to support Vietnam’s growing electricity demand.
BCPG already has extensive experience in developing and operating clean energy projects in Laos and supplying electricity to Vietnam through cross-border transmission systems. These include the 600-megawatt Monsoon Wind Power Project, which exports electricity through a 500-kilovolt transmission line, as well as the Nam San 3A and Nam San 3B hydropower projects, with a combined installed capacity of 114 megawatts, connected through a 220-kilovolt transmission system.
These projects represent successful examples of regional clean energy cooperation, demonstrating how renewable energy resources can be developed in one country and delivered efficiently to support economic growth in another.
Importantly, the two cross-border transmission networks currently serving these projects have the capacity to accommodate approximately 1,500 megawatts of additional generation capacity, creating significant opportunities for investors from Thailand, Vietnam, and other countries to jointly develop new renewable energy projects in Laos and supply clean electricity to Vietnam.
“The key idea is that investments supporting a country’s development no longer need to be confined within national borders. Through regional cooperation, countries can leverage each other’s strengths to create shared value. Cross-border clean energy development offers a powerful opportunity to enhance ASEAN’s competitiveness while accelerating the region’s energy transition,” Mr. Ravi concluded.
BCPG remains committed to working closely with partners across the public and private sectors to advance cross-border clean energy projects that deliver long-term benefits for all stakeholders and contribute to a more sustainable and interconnected regional energy future.
